Awaji Island Blue: Cycling Japan’s Island Birthplace

A really great post on All About Japan.

Awaji Island is the smallest of Japan’s 5 main islands and is connected to Kobe on the main island of Honshu by the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge which was completed in 1998 – 4 years after the Kobe Earthquake of 1994.

The Akashi Strait under the bridge is best known for its eternal Naruto Whilpools which swirl endlessly due to a unique combination of temperature + currents.

Cycling around Japan is great exercise and one of the best ways to see the country’s natural beauty.
